The offense is the eleven-player 2 × 2 reference formation, with five linemen plus X/Z on and four players off. Five underneath landmarks and two deep bands show responsibility areas. Both safeties start twelve yards deep; the displayed widths are teaching choices.

This is base Cover 2, with Mike in the underneath middle hole. It is not a Tampa-2 middle run-through or a complete pattern-match installation. Flat defenders may need to sink or react to route distribution; the shaded areas are not fences. Formation checks, legal reroutes, run fits and pressure adjustments require staff rules.

How much lateral movement does the window require?
required average lateral speed = lateral distance / available time
In one declared field frame, moving 8 yd laterally in 1 s requires an average lateral velocity component of 8 yd/s toward the target. This illustrative requirement comes from distance and time; it is not an observed safety speed or a demonstrated capability.
Reaction delay reduces the available movement time. Initial velocity, acceleration, direction changes and ball height affect whether the location is reachable; this calculation alone cannot establish an interception.
